This project was done while I was in advanced graphic design class at Southern Utah University. They brought local businesses in and gave them the opportunity to use our skills so that we could gain experience. The business owner I was assigned to was in control of Black Belt Strong. The company was - well - Iām not entirely sure. The owner came in and did a board breaking exercise and said that was a pillar of their services; but they also mentioned giving rehab, life coaching, therapy, physical therapy, wellness coaching, life coaching, and more. They were very vague and aimless in the brief and constantly made alterations or pivots throughout the process, even occasionally changing the name of the organization occasionally.
I did my best, I tried to incorporate the board breaking into the design; but it was an important lesson in how crucial identity and purpose are for design and branding. I understand that sometimes resolution takes time to arrive at, but we unfortunately had very limited time and no pay as it was volunteer work.
